Fourteen of these are considered the “Principal Oils of Ancient Scripture”. They are: Myrrh, Frankincense, Cedarwood, Cinnamon, Cassia, Calamus, Galbanum, Onycha (Friar’s Balm/Benzoin), Spikenard (Nard), Hyssop, Sandalwood (Aloes), Myrtle, Cypress, and Rose of Sharon (Cistus/Rock Rose). How to anoint: Exodus 2 says to anoint by rubbing one or two drops on the skin. A modern day version that I would gently recommend—is to apply a small amount of oil mixed in a carrier oil, usually a few drops since they are so concentrated—we holistic Aromatherapist recommend a 1% dilution, as the essential oils are so sensitizing—then closing your eyes, bringing both open palms up to your nose, inhale slowly and deeply for several minutes. Simply smelling the small vials, rather than actual anointing, is just as effective. Apply the oils to the face, the temples, the forehead, the top of the head, and I always recommend touching the heart. These are our awareness centers. Say soft prayers of well-wishes. Use spiritually uplifting thoughts for yourself. Be gentle. Be of love when you say these prayers. Think positive. Allow the essential oils to do their “magic”. I have personally heard many positive stories from clients who have chosen this quiet ritual to heal their minds and bodies.
